Directed by Alexandre Avancini and produced by Paris Entretenimento, Nothing to Lose reveals the still-little-known story of Edir Macedo, the man who faced up to public power, cut ties with Brazil’s religious paradigms and became one of its greatest leaders. Surrounded by mishaps and controversy, the journey – which culminated with his arrest in 1992 – has a recurring theme of perseverance and the power to overcome obstacles.

With impressive action scenes and set in Brazil through the 1960s, ‘70s, ‘80s and ‘90s, the film follows the struggles of Edir Macedo from his childhood in Rio das Flores, a municipality in the state of Rio de Janeiro. He had to deal with a lot of prejudice due to being born with a physical defect, and years later, he saw the same thing happen to one of his daughters.

Nothing to Lose also narrates how the Universal Church of the Kingdom of God was founded and gives us the inside story of the risky purchase of TV Record, when Edir Macedo acted against political and religious interests.
